The attorney for United Farm Workers Union Vice President Dolores Huerta, backed by representatives of 33 civil rights and community groups, has asked the San Francisco Police Commission to hold disciplinary hearings for the officer who struck Huerta with a billy club last September. Huerta suffered four broken ribs and a ruptured spleen when a policeman jabbed her in the ribs with a club during a protest outside a San Francisco hotel where Vice President George Bush was speaking. Other protesters were also hurt during the demonstration. Huerta’s attorney, Dianna Lyons, said during a packed hearing of the Police Commission on Wednesday night that the officer who struck Huerta should be disciplined. The commission will decide Jan. 4 whether to order a hearing.
