Blaming the ‘Iron Triangle’

After listening to Ronald Reagan tell us what an excellent job he did as President and blaming an Iron Triangle for the deficits, I wonder if the man ever knew the responsibilities of the presidency.

Many people do not blame Reagan for the nation’s fiscal problems. They blame the people who work for him. Reagan chose these people so he is responsible for their actions. He and many people in our country do not recognize or understand the responsibility of management. It is time for the American people to wake up and to understand that mature decisions, not sweet-sounding orations are what is needed to properly operate a business or this country. Reagan has continually blamed his bad policies on everyone but himself, with one exception and that was the Iran-Contra affair. And there are many of us who still believe that John Poindexter kept him informed of all actions taken in that instance.

History will evaluate the Reagan presidency and will undoubtedly grade him as the biggest spender of the nation’s assets to this date. It will show him as a President who was popular because of his ability to speak convincingly. However history will grade his overall performance as one of the poorest of the 20th Century because of the high national debt and trade deficits.
