A Huge Appetite for New Workers

The food products business has provided a feast of new jobs in Orange County in the last year. In October, 12,600 people were employed by food-products companies, a 16.7% increase from October, 1987, according to data released by the California Employment Development Department. That was the largest percentage jobs gain of any occupation in the county, according to the agency. Other occupations recording double-digit employment growth were stone, clay and glass products, up 13.5%, and rubber and plastic products, up 11%.
