Long-distance rates for American Telephone & Telegraph customers making calls within California will drop by 9.8% starting Sunday, reflecting the company’s reduced expenses. In announcing the price cut, AT&T; took advantage of authority granted by the California Public Utilities Commission last week letting it adjust its prices within a narrow range without going through a lengthy regulatory process. Five-minute, direct-dial daytime calls between Los Angeles and San Francisco will drop 12 cents to $1.23.
