Bridgford Foods Corp. in Anaheim--maker of frozen bread dough, snack sausages and other convenience-foods products--reported its second straight year of record profits Wednesday.

Profits rose 65% to $2.7 million in fiscal 1988 from $1.6 million last year. Last year’s performance marked a 150% gain over 1986, when Bridgford earned $628,233.

Sales for the fiscal year ended Oct. 28 rose to $60.2 million from $56.5 million in 1987.

Robert E. Schulze, executive vice president in charge of finance, said the company’s strong performance in 1988 is largely a result of two successful new products--microwave hamburgers and cinnamon roll dough--favorable agricultural prices, and internal cost-cutting measures.

The company, founded by Hugh H. Bridgford in 1932, began as a small butcher shop and retail meat store. The firm had sluggish sales from 1983 to 1986, but several new product lines have reinvigorated the business in the last 2 years, Schulze said.
