Local News in Brief : Robber Locks Postal Workers in Vault

A crowbar-wielding robber locked four U.S. Postal Service employees in a vault in Lancaster and fled with $20,000 worth of checks, money orders and cash, authorities said.

The workers, who were not hurt, used a telephone inside the vault to call for help late Tuesday afternoon, Sheriff’s Department Deputy Bill Webb said. The man, who entered the Lancaster Boulevard post office at 5:10 p.m., escaped with $8,330 in cash and $11,816 in checks, Webb said.

“He entered a rear door and, brandishing a crowbar, forced four people into a vault, grabbed the money and fled,” the deputy said.
