The price of pop (and rock) art keeps going up, like every other sort of art. Witness the price an Australian company called Rock Legends paid for a life-size bronze statue of John Lennon: $1 million (in American dollars). “This is a significant work of fine art,” said the company’s chairman, Edward Coutts. “At this price, we felt it was an exceptional value.” The statue, by Australian artist Brett-Livingstone Strong, was created after Lennon was shot to death in 1980. It was displayed at Los Angeles City Hall in 1981 and has toured Japan and Australia since then.
