Dollar Holds Steady in Quiet Trading Abroad
The dollar ended hardly changed in Frankfurt on Monday, with major world financial centers still officially closed for the New Year holiday.
The dollar closed unchanged from the Frankfurt opening at 1.7710 marks. It closed Friday at 1.7755 and ended the New York trading day at 1.7690.
Dealers were divided on which way the dollar would move once trade in other centers resumed after the New Year break.
The dollar opened in Brussels at 37.22 Belgian francs, down from 37.32 francs Friday and opened in Italy at 1,306.875 Italian lire, up from 1,305.25 lire Friday.
The Japanese, Swiss, French and British currency markets were closed for the New Year’s holiday.
