World : U.S. Decries Israel’s Deportations
The State Department today decried Israel’s deportation of 15 Palestinian activists, calling it a violation of international law that seriously concerns the United States.
An Israeli Embassy spokesman in Washington said the Palestinians were guilty of inciting violent disturbances in Israeli-occupied territories and had been given a chance to appeal. The stern American criticism, however, comes at a time when relations between Israel and Washington are already strained by the opening of a U.S. dialogue with the Palestine Liberation Organization.
