A Swedish court denied the second appeal of a suspect in the 1986 killing of Prime Minister Olof Palme, upholding a lower court’s decision to detain him while police gather more evidence. Christer Pettersson, 41, will remain in custody until Jan. 13, when prosecutors must formally charge him, seek a second extension or release him. Palme was shot on the night of Feb. 28, 1986, while walking home from a movie in Stockholm. Pettersson, who has a history of violent crimes and psychiatric treatment, was arrested Dec. 14.
