The Navy awarded General Dynamics Corp. a $726-million contract to build the first Seawolf attack submarine, a new class designed to hunt Soviet missile and attack subs. The SSN-21 Seawolf is designed to dive deeper, move faster and run more quietly than current SSN-688 Los Angeles-Class U.S. attack submarines.
