In Brief : ‘The Gipper’ Invites Fighting Irish

WASHINGTON —
President Reagan has invited the Notre Dame University football team to visit the White House on Jan. 18, presidential spokesman Marlin Fitzwater announced today.
The Fighting Irish won the national championship Jan.2 by defeating West Virginia in the Fiesta Bowl. In one of Reagan’s notable movie roles, he played George Gipp, legendary Norte Dame football player, in “Knute Rockne--All American.” The movie contained the line that gave rise to Reagan’s slogan in political life, “Win one for the Gipper.”
