Cigarette Tax Takes Effect

It did not take long to put the tax initiative on tobacco into effect. I did not vote for this tax because I think it discriminates against those addicted to nicotine. Will the added tax really be spent on the poor, and those needing health care?

The voters also passed Proposition 103, hoping to lower their insurance rates. It passed, but hangs in limbo while the insurance companies try to prove the proposition is unconstitutional.

Is that really what holds up the implementation of the voters’ wishes, or is it because our elected officials are controlled by the insurance contributions to their reelections?

We voted, and passed a higher sales tax to keep down bus fares. Did it? No!

I’ll remember these facts when I vote.
