USIU Is Routed by Rhode Island in Another High-Scoring Game

Eric Leslie scored 23 points, and John Evans added 22 as Rhode Island defeated U.S. International, 116-99, Tuesday night in men’s basketball.

It was the first game for USIU (6-12) since Saturday’s 162-144 defeat by Loyola Marymount, in which the teams scored 306 points to set an NCAA record for total points in a game.

USIU was plagued by turnovers and never got closer than a basket, 22-20, in the first half. Rhode Island led, 58-45, at halftime.

It was USIU’s third consecutive loss.

Rhode Island (6-5) led by as many as 27, 106-89, late in the second half.

Paul Wilson led USIU with 22 points, Gary Williams had 20 and Mike Sterner added 19 points and 15 rebounds. USIU, which plays at Manhattan today, made 35 of 93 shots.
