City National Corp.’s 1988 profit climbed 21% from 1987 to a record $49 million. Assets advanced 23% to a record $4.3 billion. The Beverly Hills bank holding company attributed the results in part to a 24% increase in deposits to an all-time high of $3.5 billion and a honing of internal operations.
