Perry Leads SDSU Women Past San Jose

The San Diego State women’s basketball team defeated San Jose State, 77-64, Thursday for the Aztecs’ 13th victory without a loss this season. San Jose State (3-9) trailed the Aztecs, 43-28, at halftime. Chana Perry led the Aztecs with 28 points and 9 rebounds. Crystal Lee had 7 steals for SDSU.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Brad Soucie, a 6-foot 5-inch junior forward at Christian Heritage College, has been named NAIA District 3 athlete of the week. Soucie, a transfer from Eastern Michigan, set the Hawks’ scoring record with 46 points against Point Loma Nazarene Dec. 31. Soucie averaged 34.8 points in the next 3 games.

Christian Heritage was ranked No. 1 in the nation in the National Christian Collegiate Athletic Assn. The Hawks will play host to Biola, ranked No. 4, on Jan. 31. Christian Heritage will play Claremont Mudd at Granite Hills Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

TENNIS

John Warzycki of La Jolla defeated Art Farrington of Escondido, 7-5, 5-7, 6-3 in the semifinals of the men’s 65 singles at the San Diego Senior Heart Assn. tennis tournament at the San Diego Tennis and Racquet Club.

Bill Conel of Oceanside defeated Fred Moore of Santa Barbara, 6-0, 6-2, in the 75 singles division. John Shelton and Bob Hagey, both of La Jolla, defeated Conlin McCarther and Paul Bradshaw, also of La Jolla, 6-0, 6-2, in the 75 doubles division. Shelton and Hagey will play Robert Geier (San Diego) and Al Wilson (La Jolla) in the finals. Geir and Wilson defeated Lloyd Eveland of Carmel and Fred Moore of Santa Barbara, 4-6, 6-0, 6-1.
