Fierce winds whipped Wyoming, snow fell in scattered areas from the Northwest to parts of Texas and freezing rain pelted portions of the Ohio and Mississippi valleys, the National Weather Service reported. The weather service said an upper air disturbance across the middle Mississippi and lower Ohio valleys produced rain and sleet from southeastern Missouri to the southern Appalachians. Icy roads were blamed for a rash of minor accidents in Columbus, Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio, and Charleston, W.Va. Snow fell from west-central Missouri through Illinois to northern Indiana. Midland, Tex., received 4 inches of snow.
