World : Iran Executes 23 Drug Smugglers

ATHENS —
Iranian authorities executed 23 people on charges of smuggling narcotics into the country, bringing to 47 the number executed on drug charges since Jan. 1, the official Islamic Republic News Agency said today. The latest executions came amid an intensified campaign against narcotics trafficking, especially smugglers hauling opium, heroin and marijuana from across the Pakistani and Afghan borders.
