From Times wire services

More than 5,000 people--many chanting demands for freedom, human rights and the name “Gorbachev!”--demonstrated in central Prague today, but for the first time in four days of protests police did not intervene.

In a direct reversal of violent tactics against demonstrators in the city’s Wenceslas Square, witnesses said police made no move to disperse the crowd after Czechoslovakia came under heavy criticism at the European Security Conference in Vienna.
