Michael Caine, in a Rolling Stone interview, admits he’s often in it only for the money. “What do you think ‘Jaws: The Revenge’ was? I did it for the money and to get the hell out of Hollywood in February, when it’s pouring rain. I thought, ‘I’ve done enough good roles.”’ As for his “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” role opposite Steve Martin, which brought him his biggest payday: “I have a terrible feeling that even if it had been a rotten script, I’d have done it anyway. I am not a sybarite or some dumb star with a kidney-shaped swimming pool. But I do have a certain standard of living, which is . . . high.”
