CHRYSANTHEMUM: A large genus that includes herbs and shrubby plants, usually with white or yellow flowers, the chrysanthemum has been grown and improved in China for more than 3,000 years. Introduced to Europe by 1700, the plants are now widely grown commercially and in homes. Of the many species and varieties, some are considered toxic if ingested and may be harmful to small children or pets.
