Davis, Wilson Lead Waves Past Gonzaga

Pepperdine, behind the scoring of guards Craig Davis and Lamar Wilson, extended its winning streak to 4 straight games and remained in a 3-way tie for first place in the West Coast Athletic Conference with a 74-70 victory over Gonzaga Saturday night before a crowd of 3,700 at the Martin Centre.

The Waves, who have won 17 of 22 from Gonzaga, are 4-0 in the WCAC, as are Loyola Marymount and St. Mary’s.

Davis, a junior, scored a season-high 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting, including 6 of 7 from 3-point range.

Wilson, a senior, scored a career-high 15 points.

After a 3-point shot by guard Doug Spradley gave Gonzaga a 47-42 lead with 14:49 left, the Waves (12-7 overall) scored 16 straight to take a 58-47 lead with 9:56 left. Davis scored 11 of the points, including 3 3-pointers.

Gonzaga (10-7, 1-3) made a last run when Spradley, who had a game-high 29 points, made a 4-point play (he made a 3-pointer and a free throw after being fouled on the play).

But Wilson made 2 free throws to give Pepperdine a 70-66 lead.

The Waves made 11 of their last 12 free-throw attempts.
