Ringo Starr plays an 18-inch conductor with magical powers in “Shining Time Station,” a new storybook series for children combining adventures, music and comedy that debuts on KCET Channel 28 Saturday at 9 a.m.

Musical puppets live in the jukebox of this enchanted train station, and there are also stories involving “Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends,” animated steam engines that are favorites on England’s ITV network. The cast includes Jason Woliner and Nicole Leach, seen with Starr on the cover.
