Share

The UCI Medical Center in Orange has announced that its program to help elderly patients and their families has opened a new branch at the Woodbridge Medical Center in Irvine.

The outreach branch of the Academic Geriatric Resource Center, made possible by a $95,000 grant from the Irvine Health Foundation, is open Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. to noon for qualified Irvine residents or patients of physicians in Irvine.

The center offers a multidisciplinary approach to help the frail elderly live independently, preferably in their own homes, said Marilyn Milligan, case manager for the geriatric assessment program.

It is designed to help older adults with multiple health problems, she said.

The center offers a health assessment program, a free physician referral service, a home-care program and other services, including “respite volunteers” to give a break to families caring for the homebound elderly.
