Private Care for the Retarded

Share

My letter is to present a positive side to the articles regarding the despicable care of the developmentally disabled residing in residential facilities.

My son, age 36, has been residing in a residential facility, New Horizons in Sepulveda, for the past eight years, and has received and is still receiving the very best of care.

Our homes are under constant examination by state officials, staff people and parents, and we always come out with flying colors.

Parents, don’t be discouraged! There are proper existing facilities available for your developmentally disabled young adults. Go through proper channels when selecting a residential facility. Ask: Is it privately run? Is it parent sponsored? Is it recommended through your regional center?
