A Cuban diplomat who defected to the United States said he took part regularly in a Palestinian-backed, Cuban gun-running operation to rebel groups in three Latin American countries. Hector Aguililla Saladrigas, 35, said that with Palestinian help, Havana arranged to ship large quantities of Western-made weaponry to guerrilla groups in El Salvador, Guatemala and Chile. He also said that Cuba provides “terrorist” training to Palestinian militants. Aguililla, who spent most of his 14-year diplomatic career involved in Middle East affairs, said he defected after becoming disillusioned with his government.
