Gun Control and Tragedy in a Stockton Schoolyard

Share

We have been aware for a long time that the priorities of American society are quite misdirected. Greed, power and sex seem to be the forces that guide and control us, rather than reason, compassion and understanding.

The article on Jan. 22 made us feel that we are fast falling into a state of moral decay. When we read that people rush out to buy AK-47s because they read in the paper of “how much damage that firearm can do in such a short period of time. A lot of people hadn’t heard about it before,” we must wonder at the moral fiber of both gun store owners and the general public. The tragedy in Stockton should be the basis of people’s righteous indignation and not a reason to run and purchase more such weapons. It reflects very badly on the type of society we have created and are continuing to create.
