Thoughts on Abortion

Your article on abortion comes at a timely point in the year. Every January I spend a few moments thinking about the child I didn’t have who would have been born this month, and been 12 this year. Nearly 13 years ago I had an abortion--it was a joint decision between the baby’s father and myself. Our relationship was new; we weren’t ready for a family.

Looking back, was it the right decision for that time? Yes. Faced with an unwanted pregnancy today would I choose to abort? No. Why? Because of the gentle reminder each January of the person who wasn’t born.

In all of the battle raging over abortion from both sides it is important to remember that there is no perfect choice, no perfect solution, just the best one for the people involved.
