Soviet President Mikhail S. Gorbachev, whose planned visits to Cuba and Britain last December were canceled as a result of the Armenian earthquake, will visit those nations in April, then make a trip to West Germany the following month. In Moscow, the Communist Party daily newspaper Pravda said Gorbachev plans to go to Cuba in early April but gave no specific dates. In London, a British spokesman said that Gorbachev and his wife, Raisa, will meet with Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and other leaders April 5-7, although there is no firm itinerary yet. West German spokesman Friedhelm Ost said the Soviet leader plans to meet with Chancellor Helmut Kohl and other officials June 12-15.
