Farley Inc., which has been waging a hostile takeover battle for West Point-Pepperell Inc. since October, upped its bid to $1.53 billion and added that it now controled 62% of the textile giant’s stock. It said its increased offer, equivalent to $52 per share, “demonstrates our resolve to acquire West Point-Pepperell.” Farley, a closely held investment firm, said it was also extending its offer to Feb. 15 from Feb. 1, and added that as of Jan. 25 about 15.7 million West Point shares had been tendered to its Farley/WPM Acquisition Corp.
