Opponents of the partial merger of the Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press asked a federal appeals court to delay the business deal until a legal battle over the agreement is resolved. The motion, filed by Michigan Citizens for an Independent Press, a coalition of newspaper advertisers and readers, sought to halt the newspapers’ plan to proceed with the merger on Feb. 6. The group is asking the full 13-member U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit to hear arguments for rejecting the merger.
