Ka’u Agribusiness Co., which announced two months ago that it would phase some 4,200 acres of marginal sugar cane land on the island of Hawaii out of production last year, is planning to use some of that acreage to grow oranges.

The company, a subsidiary of C. Brewer and Co., plans to begin the effort with test plantings of 21 acres of Valencia oranges and seven acres of “Kona” oranges.
