Compaq Computer Corp.’s 1988 net income jumped 88% from 1987 to a record $255 million. Sales rose to a record $2.1 billion, up 69%. The Houston firm attributed the results in part to strong worldwide sales of its entire product line and a lower-than-expected tax rate.
