Local News in Brief : Burbank Law Bans Nudity in Public

The Burbank City Council Tuesday approved an ordinance prohibiting nudity or disrobing in public.

City attorneys wrote the ordinance when police complained of their inability to arrest naked residents who were exhibiting non-sexual behavior. Law enforcement officials had to release “streakers,” sunbathers and other nude individuals because public nudity is not illegal in the city.

The new ordinance, which will take effect March 10, will make it a misdemeanor to appear nude in public. The maximum penalty will be a $1,000 fine and six months in county jail.
