In Brief : Canadians Take Bobsledding Lead

CORTINA D'AMPEZZO, Italy — Canada edged past East Germany by 0.17 seconds to move into first place on the second day of preliminary two-man heats of the World Bobsled Championship. The Canadian team, led by Gary Haydenluck, made a record time of 54.55 seconds Wednesday night, breaking Tuesday’s mark of 54.92 set by East Germany. The East German team was led by Olympic champion Wolfgang Hoppe. Switzerland made a third-place time of 54.88 seconds.
