Navy Working With Oxnard Planning Agencies

Share

Recent news reports covering the Navy’s participation with the City of Oxnard General Plan Advisory Committee relative to the Ormond Beach project have not adequately clarified the Navy’s position.

For some time, the U.S. Navy’s Pacific Missile Test Center at Point Mugu has worked with GPAC and other planning agencies to promote further understanding of our activities at Point Mugu and to provide our technical expertise in areas such as aircraft operations, when requested. The GPAC meeting of Jan. 14 was an example of this cooperative relationship. The opportunity to work directly with local community planning organizations is greatly appreciated.

The proposed development of the Ormond Beach area presents difficult issues of compatibility that we have discussed with the city of Oxnard and Baldwin Co. We are committed to exploring mutually acceptable solutions that benefit the continued economic development of the area while preserving the important contributions of the Pacific Missile Test Center to our national security. The scheduled update of our Air Installations Compatible Use Zones Noise Studies is an important step toward that end.
