A Monrovia woman depressed by a separation from her husband was arrested after allegedly trying to kill her three young children with overdoses of insulin, police said Thursday.

The children, a 3-year-old girl, and her two brothers, ages 7 and 11, were recovering after being treated at Methodist Hospital of Southern California after the drugging on Wednesday, Lt. Robert Page said.

Their mother, Francis Vizier, 40, who apparently was considering suicide, was booked on suspicion of attempted murder and child endangerment and held without bail, Page said.

Police said Vizier gave the children insulin injections and sent them off to school, where officials noticed the 7-year-old boy had become drowsy and called his father, who took all three children to the hospital.

The children were turned over to the father’s custody pending further legal proceedings.
