Detroit Red Wing Petr Klima was sentenced today to three days in jail for his guilty plea to a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol, a court official said.

“The judge fined him $550 or 40 days in jail, plus a $60 screening fee, plus three days in jail, with credit for one day already served,” said 44th District Court administrator Kevin Sutherland.

Klima was taken to the Royal Oak Police Department and to the city jail immediately after his 9 a.m. sentencing before Judge Daniel Sawicki, Sutherland said.

Sawicki also sentenced Klima to 18 months’ probation and suspended his driver’s license for six months, Sutherland said.

The Red Wings left wing was fined $150 on a charge of failure to stop after an accident, to which he also pleaded guilty in December, Sutherland said. Both charges are misdemeanors.

Klima was arrested in October while still on probation for a 1987 impaired driving charge.

On Dec. 2, 48th District Judge Edward Sosnick sentenced Klima to 31 days in jail and two years of probation and suspended his driver’s license for six months for violating probation. Part of that sentence was served at a children’s hospital.
