Oscar-winning actor Sean Connery, the original screen James Bond, was resting comfortably at home in Los Angeles after an operation to remove a benign growth from his throat, his agent said Tuesday.

Connery “had a node on his vocal cord that was successfully removed,” his agent, Peggy Stevens, quoted Connery’s wife, Micheline, as saying.

The surgery was performed about a week ago. Stevens said, “Any reports of cancer are absolutely not true.”

Doctors have instructed Connery, noted for his distinctive Scottish brogue, not to use his voice for up to four weeks.

Stevens would not say where the surgery was performed, adding that Connery is at home and preferred to remain secluded.

Connery won the Academy Award for best supporting actor in 1988 for portraying an aging Chicago police officer in “The Untouchables.”
