Michael I. Shapiro, assistant news director of television station WTSP in St. Petersburg, Fla, was arrested and charged with breaking into the newsroom computer system of rival WTVT in Tampa, Fla., with his home computer. Shapiro, an employee of WTVT until he left four months ago to join WTSP, was arrested by Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents and booked on 14 counts of computer-related crime. He was released on his own recognizance. A WTVT official said there is evidence of repeated actual and attempted break-ins of the system.
