From Times wire services
SUSANVILLE, Calif. —
Warren, the Bureau of Land Management’s mascot for its wild horse and burro adoption program, was stolen from his pen here and beheaded a short distance away, a BLM spokesman said today.
Jeff Fontana, public information officer for the Susanville district office, said the burro’s body was found in a culvert along U.S. 395 about a quarter of a mile from the Litchfield corrals. The head has not been found. After the body was found, workers discovered that a horse in the corral had a gunshot wound in its head.
