Mazda Motor Corp. said it will increase the number of its U.S. car dealers to 900 from the current 820 by the end of 1989.

The company will also raise the ratio of sole dealers in the United States to 50% from about 30%, a company spokesman said.

The increase and strengthening of the sales network in the U.S. comes on the heels of the introduction of the MX-5 and four-door sedan Capella model cars, the spokesman said.

Mazda will export MX-5 model cars from Japan, but the Capella will be produced by Mazda’s wholly owned U.S. subsidiary.
