Mexico Announces Lowest January Price Increase Since 1978
The Mexican government says the lowest January price rise in 11 years and the return to Mexico of about $700 million in capital last month is proof its anti-inflation plan is working.
The Bank of Mexico said consumer prices rose 2.4% in January, the lowest for that month since 1978, the government newspaper El Nacional reported Friday.
The National Consumer Price Index rose by 0.9% the latter half of the month, the central bank also said, noting that higher prices for services, rents, telephones, medicines and automotive insurance rates spurred January inflation.
