Soviet Nuclear Test Held

MOSCOW —
The Soviet Union carried out an underground nuclear test near Semipalatinsk in Central Asia aimed at “modernizing military hardware,” Tass reported Sunday.
The official news agency said the blast early Sunday yielded between 20 and 150 kilotons. No abnormal radiation was detected, Tass said.
