From Times wire services

Rock singer Rod Stewart has joined the ranks of celebrities signed up by Pepsi-Cola Co. to advertise the soft drink as it continues its marketing war with archrival Coca-Cola Co.

Stewart signed a deal to appear in Pepsi ads in Latin America later this year, Pepsi-Cola International said in a statement today.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Last month, Pepsi signed pop star Madonna for a global ad campaign that will include the debut of a song from the singer’s next album. That announcement came on the heels of industry leader Coke’s new ad campaign aimed at pushing sales of Diet Coke.

Coke signed pop singer George Michael for a series of commercials, on top of a campaign already featuring hockey star Wayne Gretzky, model Elle Macpherson and “Miami Vice” star Don Johnson, a one-time Pepsi pitchman.
