The World : Sri Lanka Braces for Vote

Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto left Shanghai for home, ending a three-day visit to a close ally by meeting with top Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping. Bhutto, 35, whose meeting with Deng was closed to Western reporters, received the octogenarian leader’s pledge that the Sino-Pakistan friendship is “eternal.” Deng was quoted by the official New China News Agency as saying: “All parties and successive governments of Pakistan adhere to having friendly relations with China.”
