News Corp.’s second-quarter profit rose 77% to $224.3 million. Revenue rose 49% to $1.65 billion. The Australia-based worldwide media and entertainment firm said its 20th Century Fox Film unit had two major film successes in the period--”Big” and “Die Hard.” Its Fox Broadcasting Co. unit was profitable, reflecting larger audiences for its weekend prime time TV shows. The results for Triangle Publications (TV Guide, Daily Racing Form and Seventeen) were included from November, when it was acquired.
