SAN FRANCISCO — Former Secretary of State George P. Shultz has rejoined Bechtel Group Inc. on a part-time basis as a member of the company’s outside Board of Counselors, the company announced today.
Shultz was a senior executive with Bechtel from 1974 to 1982 and was serving as president of Bechtel Group, Inc. when he left in 1982 at the request of former President Ronald Reagan to become secretary of state. Shultz would not be eligible to rejoin Bechtel as an active officer because he is past the mandatory retirement age for senior officers. Bechtel’s Board of Counselors is an outside panel of distinguished executives who advise the company on a wide range of business issues.
