Values

During the seven years that I have been a Los Angeles Police Department officer, I have seen a rapid decline in moral standards, ethical values and concern for quality of life as we once knew it. The “what’s in to for me” attitude is causing our communities to decline and lose their sense of value. History has been our greatest teacher; let us not be blind to what we have learned.

It bothers me to see people not getting involved as they should. Even if it is the smallest of contributions, we must all make an effort if we are to live in a better world. To stay in one’s cocoon is to acquiesce to the injustice and inhumanity that we are witnessing today.

A great society cannot be legislated, it must grow out of the intelligence, morality and genuine concern for the community.

We must continue to believe that one voice does make a difference and we must all speak, and more importantly act.
