A Huntington Beach man, chased by officers after he reportedly snatched a 76-year-old woman’s purse, jumped from a moving car and ran, police said, abandoning his girlfriend in the car.

The chase began when the man grabbed the purse at Warner Avenue and Mount Eden Street in Fountain Valley and got into a stolen car, police said. He then led police on a chase for a mile through congested traffic until he suddenly jumped and ran, leaving the young woman in the rolling vehicle. Police chased him through residential areas and Mile Square Park.

Warren Matthew Marr, 20, was arrested on suspicion of robbery, burglary and possession of stolen property, Police Lt. Mike Hanrahan said. The girlfriend was arrested and then released.
